Question

Thankyou for the study plans, I plan to build this boat shortly. On the study plan the Keel and Stem are 100x8mm aluminium. I am having trouble getting this and would like to know if I could use 6mm 5083 but of a larger size say 150x6 to get the same strength. I have plenty of 6mm 5083 plate. I will be ordering the plans shortly. Thanks John

Answer

If you are putting the boat into survey go for 100 x 10. I know its massive but its the easiest way out. The NSW Maritime surveyors wanted to use the 100 x 8. If the boat is not for survey just use 80 x 6 in 6061 or 6082 or cut from 5083 plate
