Question

G'day i have a question regarding grades of alloy needed to build your boats i have been trying to price the cost of aluminium to build a 129 but most suppliers don't seem to stock structural grade alooy in flat bar(6061) can i use any other grade

Answer

The Australian Aluminium supply industry is a complete joke. Think about this if you cannot get structural grade aluminium what are the aluminium structurs being made of. I suspect that 6060 structural grade is now being used through the Australian boatbuilding industry. It is 30% weaker in the heat effected zone. You should be able to get 5083 - 111 plate . Cut this into flat bar. Note 6082 is same as 6061. Often they have this in stock but do not tell you
