Question

could this vessel be run as a displacement hull with a low power diesel and shaft drive? how small a motor would be recommended and do you know approx economy?

Answer

Planing hulls such as the Bollard designs, which have a twisted planing surface, operate very well at displacement speed, that is for this hull about 8.5 knots. If you want to fit an older motor I would suggest, as a minimum for 8.5 knots in smooth conditions, a 4 cylinder Ford like a Lehman Ford or similar of about 80hp. Ideally for optimum all weather and all sea conditions a 6 cylinder naturally aspirated diesel like a Cummins 6B of 120hp would be ideal
