Question

What size & pitch Propellor is recommended for
use with a Perkins 108(50 Hp) with a Hurth 2:1 reduction gear Box.- presently fitted with a 17'' 3 blade x 10 Brass ( this prop is old & flexing)

Answer

I need to know the engine rpm as I am unfamilar with that model Perkins and it takes time to chase the info up. I assume it is a fairly late model about mid 1990's and may rev above 2800rpm at full speed (with right prop)

Follow up. looks like you have a prop for a 1:1 gearbox. Very approx you need about 18 x 23 inches for 2;1 reduction. This is guidance only. A prop manufacturer will calculate against the characteristics for his prop design.

Further comment at later date . Also possibility that you have a !:! gearbox. You say in your later email that you are only getting 1500rpm in gear driving the boat. This seems to indicate that may be it is a 1:! gearbox and the 17 inch prop is over-pitched for 2000rpm prop speed. Check the gearbox plate carefully for reduction ratio
