Question

Can this design be amended to aluminium constrution?
if so do balast be aded to compensatefor the lighter ally insted of steel?

Answer

Yes it could be built in aluminium. Plans would need to be modified to suit aluminium building techniques and to use readily available aluminium sections. There is 7.5 tonnes of steel in Seacliff. The Aluminium weight would be about 3.8 tonnes, a weight saving of 3.8 tonnes which can be used for additional catch providing it is not stowed on deck. The craft should not need any permanent ballast but may require a water ballast tank for use under certain conditions of loading such a with 25% fuel left and a 25% catch in the fish hold. The design would need further consideration in relation to such matters
