Question

If built from aluminium as a passage maker given a weight saving of 3.7 ton for change in material and another weight saving by changing fish hold into saloon or cabin what speed and fuel burn could you expect from this hull platform if recomended 120 hp is used

Answer

Assuming that you get the loaded weight down to 11 tonnes to 11.5 tonnes the estimated top speed would be a little over 10 knots. Regarding fuel consumption my experience of naturally aspirated 6 cylinder diesel like the older Perkins 6.354 and the later Cummins 6B engines is that they can be very fuel efficient at about 1900rpm,but for best cruising speed you would most likely operate at 2100rpm. I would expect fuel consumption with say a 2 to 1 gearbox and a suitable prop to be about 12 to 14 litres per hour. I have know a Perkins at 1900 rpm to use 9.0 litres an hour
