Question
what are bilge keels
Answer
Bilge keels are steel plates about 1.5 metres long and 450mm deep welded to the hull at right angles just below the turn of the bilge ot where the vertical side turns into the bottom of the boats. They are very effective. All modern warships still have bilge keels in addition to stabilisers, The Navy FFG class Frigates have them. They slow down the '' period of roll'' that is the time a craft takes to complete a roll from one side to the other. They are ideal for a design like Marianne
