Question
hi, thanks for answering that -now for a bit more detail! what we are looking for is a cheap to build (in alloy) safe fishing platform, that has the beam and stability of a larger boat - but without the price tag. a reasonably comfortable ride as conditions do change rapidly over here in nz. cabin so we can keep out of the weather (be it rain or sun). seating for 4-5. an uncluttered cockpit for game fishing, a basic fly bridge, this can be something as simple as a tuna tower and bench seat for two.dry enough to back down on a fish (so a decent seal or step into the cabin) head room inside (im 6'2'') plenty of storage space, full floatation, live bait tank (can be built into a duck board) step through transom, duck board. now for the probabaly more important stuff my wife wants - otherwise this may not get off the ground! double berth & if possible two singles - a galley of some description (cooker/small sink/fridge - oh i want a decent size built in freezer just out side of cabin into cockpit, that can be used as a rigging station.toilet, comfortable L shaped couch so when rough can sit facing the bow - not side on. don't really want to cut down on the windows if possible, if waves start coming over the front i'm either going to fast or i shouldn't be there! we are fishing for pleasure not fear.when we first started looking at this idea - the first things that we hit on were - super cheap to build and super cheap to run.we looked at displacement - semi or planning to ease the economy. but don't have enough design knowledge to make a decision. one thing that worried me was that the narrowness of displacement hulls cut room for everything including engine space. the engines i mentioned we talked of maranising truck diesels - this is something i would still like to do as they are 1/4 the price. speed - i've revised what i was looking at since the bulk of the time we are trolling lures at 6-8 knots. 12 - 18 knots on the way home would be ample.
whew!! that about covers it - will it all fit??? (and still look like a boat? did i mention it also still wants to look good? anyway - please have a look and get back to us. thanks - JUSTIN....
Answer
Anything is possible and providing you are happy with about 14 knots and do not build in too much weight then it it will be OK. You must control weight, Basically the plans will build you the hull and cabin. You can fit it out as you like. Every one wants something different. I really do not care where you put the shit house, that is interior decorating and domestic design not hull shape and strength engineering
